It is never, ever, ever romantic or sweetly protective or endearing when a man tells a woman who is not dressed to his standards of feminine modesty that she's 'just asking for someone to shove her in a dark alley and rape her.' That's an ignorant exercise of male privilege at best and a threat at worst.
Stop throwing it in romance like it belongs there.
