Riza is descended from the almighty well of stoicism and loyalty from which all stoic, awesome, sharpshooting second in command types come from. She is pure and unadulterated love, and she's good with puppies. (Potty training with guns. So hardcore!)
2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
She's an important supporting character. Her presence is fairly crucial for Roy: she gave him the secret of his alchemy, she supports him and maintains his morality, and together they angst about the Ishbalan war in which they slaughtered an innocent culture.
3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
I can't relate to her, but she does grip me emotionally when she is thrown into a state of fear and anxiety over what new fatal situation Roy has gotten himself into this time.
4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
Like it, love it, want more of it.
5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

I'd make her more of a main character and mover-and-shaker. The manga is really good to its ladies, but doesn't allow them main character spotlight like it does for the guys.

I would want to BE her.

Nope. I think that if FMA was on my big fandoms list, she would, but since it's one of my 'awesome manga, no interest to write for it' fandoms, none of the characters are my all time faves. I'd have to want to write them for that.
9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?
I would hype her like no one's business. It's not often you get a character like her in any medium, much less an anime one.
10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?
Happily, yes. In the context of Roy/Riza.
