under the boardwalk, down by the sea

My lymph nodes are so swollen that it hurts to lift my chin or move my neck. If it's not one thing, it's another lately. I'm fairly sure this is just another sinus cold, so I'm not all that worried, but I hate losing my sense of smell. Not because of smell itself, but because of how it screws with my sense of taste. I lose all will to eat once I lose my sense of taste- it just feels somewhat pointless. I'll just sit there, pathetically poking at my food, and bemoaning the fact that I am incapable of tasting most of what the aforementioned food has to offer. I usually eat lame food when I'm sick, so I don't look back with sadness upon the wasted meals I ate when my nose was all clogged up and nonfunctional.

Meanwhile, this weekend I go to the beach! I adore the beach. My family probably thinks I don't, but this is not true. We simply have different reasons for enjoying the beach. If I go to a beach, I will go for two different reasons, and I have two different sorts of beach locations for either of these reasons. If I go to Rehobeth, which is by and large my favorite beach, I am going to have a crazy good time and enjoy myself.

It has an awesome boardwalk, which gives me something to do when I invariably get bored with sitting on the sand/walking along the shore/trying to body surf. I don't do what my sisters and mother do, which is...well, tan. They lube themselves up with suntan lotion, stretch out on a towel, and soak up rays for hours at a time. I don't have that kind of patience, don't care enough about getting golden-brown to cultivate the sense of patience, and honestly don't think I'm missing out on much in any case. I take books to read for boredom, take long walks along the shoreline, and occasionally I'll get into the water in an attempt to body surf. When I'm done with that, I'll hit the boardwalk and get stuff to eat, or check out the shops, or kill money at the arcades. That's the 'have crazy fun beach'. I don't mind when these beaches have crowds of people, because that's all part of the fun.

The other reason I will go to the beach is 'spend time communing with nature and relaxing'. For that, I like to go to small, out of the way beaches where no one else really goes. I like them as untouched as possible, and I bring a book or two along and maybe a sketchpad and I just soak up the beach experience. The waves, the scent of the ocean, etc. In Puerto Rico, we went to a tiny island that was pretty much isolated except for my family, and it was like having our own beach for the day. I like the ocean to be completely calm, so I can just lay in the water or swim in it, instead of being tossed about by the surf. When I go to a beach in Puerto Rico, the ocean is typically calm, as opposed to Rehobeth or Cocoa, where the waves will beat you like a harsh mistress! (They look small, but they will drive you into the sand!) I spend a relatively short time at these beaches, though. It seems like most of the time my sisters want to spend at a beach is dedicated entirely to tanning time. I will never understand that. Can't you tan anywhere?

Meanwhile, I haven't done a meme in a while. Here's a character questionnaire one:

Pick a fictional character from a fandom I know and I'll answer the following questions to the best of my abilities.

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

Feel free to give me multiple characters!
