i've got one hand in my pocket

Another interesting dream tonight. This one was my subconscious saying: "Gosh, I wonder what would happen if they made Black Jewels Trilogy into a movie." Unfortunately, my subconscious has been screwed over one too many times by 'book to movie' wastelands, so Daughter of the Blood was made into a children's movie (child protaganist means book for children!), and the characters were made pretty unrecognizable. A point which my movie-watching self continued to comment on throughout the dream, despite angry glances from my dream family.

My mind gave me one Jaenelle figure, one Daemon figure, one Saetan figure, and one Dorothea figure. Daemon was still a slave under Dorothea, but I don't think the ring of obedience was ever specified. In fact, my mind gave everyone in Terreille these nifty magical handcuffs that looked like bracelets, but in fact bound everyone to the place with ropes of magical energy. Jaenelle was still a child, but much more innocent and much happier and, I should add, a lot more proactive, since she was sweeping through the land and trying to set up the court that she accomplished in Heir to the Shadows. She also sang happy songs.

Saetan, for some reason, was shown as an indulgent uncle who seemed somewhat drunk on occasion. Dream me was unhappy because they never actually said his name, which I attributed to this being a children's film. I even had brought a book with me to compare novel to movie, and kept shoving the book at my sisters, to the disapproval of my parents, who were trying to watch the film.

Terreille was very bright and whimsical-looking, with, I recall, lots of gardens. Dorothea had a giant tower shaped like a stone pillar, with something like a labyrinth below. Daemon was lost in the labyrinth and found a servant girl down there who had been keeping an eye on a handful of keys. One of the keys was the one to unlock the magical bracelets, so Daemon had to look through each one to decide. You only got one chance, because using the wrong key would either kill you or send Dorothea after your head. While all this was going on, Jaenelle and Dorothea were exchanging blows in the form of giant bolts of lightning. Dorothea had not gone for Jaenelle's offer, and was trying to push her out of Terreille by force.

Eventually, Daemon found the key and gave it to her, and she used it to make a tangled web to set everyone free. End movie. The dream went on after that by melding into another, D&D related dream, where I had to cast many enchantments to free people who were transmuted into various household objects. I love how zany these dreams are.

Meanwhile, we have absolutely nothing to eat here. I need to go out and buy some more Nong Shim udon, I used up my last package last night. Bought shiitake mushrooms and wakame for it, though. I do have mini ravioli, but I'm in the mood for Japanese, and I don't have the money to go out and order it from our sushi place. (Also sells actual ramen. Shoyu is very good.)

Still have girl scout cookies. Mmm.
