Now that I've joined Facebook (induced by my employer's recent social-media binge), I keep forgetting that I haven't updated here.

I have yet to figure out which of my oh-so-valuable posts should go where, except that obviously Facebook, being in my real name and viewable by coworkers, must stay vanilla (until I figure out how to customize my Facebook filters, anyway). That doesn't mean I want to discontinue all vanilla factoids about my life here. Facebook bulletins also seem to have a character limit, limiting me to Twitter-like status updates or remarks. So LJ remains an easier place for me to post longer entries.

Ideally, the two accounts will be complementary. If you're also on Facebook and know my real name, feel free to add me. It's probably the one site that allows me to keep in touch with the widest range of people from both past and present. I've even found my oldest childhood best friend there!

In other news, my employer told us this week that all of us, from the CEO down, would be furloughed for two weeks this summer. We will take them one week at a time, in early June and early August. Fortunately, I will have freelance assignments to help make up the difference. Not great news, but I'm still grateful to have my job, and I'm glad they didn't opt for more layoffs (first wave of cuts was in December).

Given some other recent hits (taxes, car repairs, etc.), things will continue to be tight, but I'll muddle through. One doesn't get to this point in life without significant muddling experience!
