The players would therefore be personally experiencing Chinese landscapes while in Liyue. By learning about these symbols, players will develop a cultural awareness of “Chinese items”, which is part of Genshin Impact’s cultural output.

In addition to the elements listed above, popular Liyue characters are another effective way to attract players and deliver Chinese symbols directly. Take Zhongli, the emperor and the god of Liyue, as an example. The outfit Zhongli wears combines Western and Chinese styles: it consists of a suit, swallow-tailed coat, Chinese traditional coat and male cheongsam. However, players can clearly recognize him and his dress as Chinese and Chinese style. His dress could be described as adding Western elements to the Chinese traditional coat with traditional totems, such as several rhombic structures symbolizing continuous life and happiness in China.
