I stumbled upon these rare color photos from the 1940's and it amazes me how hard it is for my brain to reconcile that they are real people. I can't look at a color photo of that era without feeling like I'm looking at a movie still. I remember a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon where Calvin's dad explains that the world really was black and white until the 60's, which was when it became colorized. As absurd as that idea is, I think that's my subconscious construct for the world.
