What do the scriptures say about eating animals?

Jun 30, 2008 00:50

*This post is dedicated to the steak salesman who keeps coming to my house after I non-judgementally have told him TWICE that I'm vegetarian, and his reply was that God wants us to eat meat.   I really don't preach at others, but it's amazing how others feel they have to straighten YOU out, so....

GOD'S PERFECT FOOD PLAN FOR US, BEFORE BEING CORRUPTED:

GENESIS 1:
029: And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. (even the ANIMALS didn't eat meat!)
030: And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the ( air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
031: And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

GENENSIS 2:
004: These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,
005: And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.
006: But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.
007: And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
008: And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
009: And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
015: And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
016: And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
017: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
LOOK WHY GOD CREATED ANIMALS, HE DID NOT BRING THEM TO ADAM AND SAY, "TASTE THIS, IT'S SO GOOD!" HE BROUGHT THEM TO HIM TO KEEP HIM COMPANY AND BROUGHT THEM TO HIM TO NAME, NOT EAT!:
018: And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
019: And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
020: And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
021: And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
022: And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

FIRST STEP DOWN FROM GOD'S ORIGINAL PERFECT PLAN  GENESIS 2:
016: Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
017: And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
018: Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
019: In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
023: Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
024: So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

GENESIS 9 NEXT STEP DOWN FROM GOD'S ORIGINAL PERFECT PLAN:
001: And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.
002: And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.
003: Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.
004: But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.
(Deuteronimy gives more rules allowing only oxen, goat, sheep and fish with scales)

PEOPLE OF GOD SEEK TO LIVE BY THE ORIGINAL PLAN AS GOD CREATED IT:
DANIEL 1:
003: And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king's seed, and of the princes;
004: Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.
005: And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king's meat, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the king.
006: Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:
007: Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego.
008: But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
009: Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs. (Since this has already came up, no this is not a homesexual romance, these are CHILDREN and their GUARDIAN.  He was tender toward the children the same way you might be with children in your care.  If he had of had romantic thoughts about the children, he would have been a pedifile, not a romantic)
010: And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.
011: Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
012: Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.
013: Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king's meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.
014: So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days.
015: And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king's meat.
016: Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse.
017: As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
018: Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.
019: And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king.

This scripture is often used to say God is commanding us to eat meat, but, just as is done throughout the Bible, a parable is used in this vision,  to show a lesson about descrimination between classes of people:

ACTS 10:
001: There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,
002: A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.
003: He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.
004: And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.
005: And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:
006: He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.
007: And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;
008: And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.
009: On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:
010: And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
011: And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
012: Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
013: And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
014: But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
015: And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
016: This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
017: Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made inquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate,
018: And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.
019: While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.
020: Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.
021: Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek:  what is the cause wherefore ye are come?
022: And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.
023: Then called he them in, and lodged them. And on the morrow Peter went away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.
024: And the morrow after they entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends.
025: And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.
026: But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.
027: And as he talked with him, he went in, and found many that were come together.
028: And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath showed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.
029: Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent for me?
030: And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,
031: And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.
032: Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.
033: Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.
034: Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
035: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
036: The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)
037: That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

*Phrophecy of how the world will be when God ends all sin and suffering and again reinstates his original plan:

Isaiah 11:6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.
Isaiah 65:25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.

Because God gave us dominion over animals, does not interpret into butchering and eating them.  All rulers have dominion over those under them.  Who do you want to rule you - a compassionate ruler, or Conan who used human skin for his furnishings?
