Leaving On a Jet Plane...er...supply ship.

Chewing on a stylus didn't have the same...something about it that chewing a pen cap did, Nyota noticed, not for the first time. How to leave a message...who to leave one for was the question and the stylus chewing didn't answer for her. Of course she'd leave one for Leo and Jim...but should she leave one with Spock too? They hadn't talked beyond ( Read more... )

Liam waited in the lounge on board the starbase, wondering when the operative assigned to the case was arriving. All he knew was that she was stationed on the Enterprise and wasn't a field agent. Great, he thought bitterly, hoping that he wouldn't spend all his time baby-sitting some newbie who thought she heard something.

At any rate, she was late. Not off to a good start, he thought, kicking the chair legs underneath him. Add to that this powderpuff mission, searching out some mythological colony - Liam asked himself (for not the first time) if maybe he'd pissed someone off, to be sent out here on this baby-sitting assignment.

Knowing she was going to be doing a lot more running around than she'd had to do so far on the ship, Nyota had worn pants with her civilian clothes as her intelligence teacher's had taught her. she preferred her comfortable uniform but when going in secretly one didn't exactly advertise that a Starfleet officer was nosing around. That's what Gold-shirts were for.

She looked around, analyzing each person's body language, attempting to suss out who was her contact. Hmmmm...irritated, impatient, yet not going anywhere. she'd wager that that was her person. "The weather's lovely today isn't it?" She spoke the first bit of their code phrase.

"But not as fine as yesterday," he answered back, the hint of an Irish lilt coloring the phrase. She had the right look at least, civvie looking for some rest and recreation.

"Liam," he said, holding out his hand.

"Uhura," she shook his hand firmly. "You've been briefed on what was heard or do you need supplemental briefing?" Right down to business. With luck she'd be back before her...the boys knew she was gone.

"All I know is that you're looking for some people who managed to get themselves lost a few generations ago," he replied, waving over the bartender to get him another drink. All the better to blend into the background. "Go ahead and tell me what you know."

"There were five ships that for one reason or another, at the very beginning of colonization efforts became lost to us," Nyota said, eyes shining. She'd always been enthralled with the story. "They never reached the destination they were headed too, disappeared into space without leaving a single trail. I found evidence that they may be near the unknown zone out here with a thriving colony."

"Doesn't make any sense," Liam told her, thanking the bartender for his drink. If the colony is thriving, then they don't want to be found. "Why send us out there, all secret-like? Why not just send an emissary ship with some Federation people to take a look around?"

"Because we're not sure how much technology they've retained, as well as...well you know how the Federation gets about letting folks grow naturally without outside interference," Nyota pointed out. "There's no telling what we're walking into."

Federation nonsense. "You're the boss for this mission," he told her, finishing his drink. "When do we get started?"

"Already started," Uhura said. "You're here and our branch has requisitioned a shuttle for us. The planet's coordinates are locked into the navi-comp. I trust you are skilled in both ancient and modern weaponry?"

Sounded like she had all the details taken care of. Pretty, too, he thought, as he glanced over her. "All I need is to grab my bag from my room, if you want to start tonight."

"Ancient weapons?" he grinned, standing and stretching. "Planning on throwing rocks at anyone?"

"That's fine with me," Nyota agreed. "And no, but I can disembowel you with a glaive with relative ease."

Liam settled up his bill and headed out, making sure she followed him to his room. Ten minutes later, his bag was packed and he was ready.

"After you, Lieutenant."

Nyota leads him to the shuttle they'd be using. Kind of beat-up, nothing to write home about. Too bad he had her leading, it looked like he was well put together, she wouldn't have minded watching him. "Here we are."

He laughed to himself when he saw the shuttle. Not the nicest he'd seen, but serviceable. "Here we are," he repeated, pressing the panel and opening the door.

Heading inside, he tossed his bag on the empty chair and headed up to the front, settling into the captain's chair. "How long until we're there?"

"Three days, at highest power, then another to sneak up on it. So four days total." If it had been the Enterprise it would only take a day max. But shuttles weren't nearly as fast as the flagship.
