that really does say it all, but I like to talk so...
Bohemian Rhapsody refuses to die. there appear to be multiple schools of thought that attempt to account for this phenomenon:
some say that Queen has inspired (and, indeed, truly continues to inspire) so many musicians to do terrific things with their craft. sometimes said artisans simply feel compelled to tip their hat to the original greatness in their own records.
others say that since the creation (or discovery, depending on your philosophical outlook) of music, all was for naught until the pinnacle musical work came into being. Bohemian Rhapsody is the justification for the existence of music. it is perfection incarnate in harmonic, melodic, timbral and lyrical succession. all we need to do as bearers of music is embrace this fact. simply put, the enlightened hail BR.
still others choose to apply The Matrix's "Neo" archetype to Freddie Mercury and company. 1975: music has become inherently fake and/or evil. soon Sony will own anything that has to do with music. we're talking music videos; we're talking tours; we're talking film soundtracks; we're talking soulless bloodsuckers (envision an Agent Smith) converting creativity into bland and meaningless chart topping money trees. musicians need someone to liberate them.
Queen steps forth and offers itself to the music industry to be mocked, beaten and featured in Wayne's World. but no matter what trouble BR finds itself in, it kicks butt and lives again. even if BR is found coming solely out of the lungs of Keller Williams, guitar solos and all singing-in-the-shower style, it's still awesome enough to triumph on the Flaming Lips latest record. jerks with accordions and the MIT Blue Notes a capella group are using BR to stick it to the industry. we'll play what we want. and what we want is the gloriously epic six minute rock n' roll tour de force called "Bohemian Rhapsody" that continues to rise from the ashes. It cannot be contained or killed.
beelzebub has a devil put aside for me. but Jesus gonna rise up. dig into Holy Week!
