with the impending move to my new apartment, i've taken a more focused interest in interior design. something i'm embarrassed to admit because if you would have asked me a year ago how i felt about interior design i would have mimicked vomiting, noises and all.
i've lost a great deal of motivation to put my artistic talents to use. lately ghosts of middle school past have shown up on facebook just to find out if "i'm still artist" (whatever the hell that means. i don't think they know) and i el oh el and say i don't have a position in that field. i feel like i don't need to be painting or drawing to be an "artist." i'll always have my skill.
but i am itching for a creative outlet. and my creative outlet has been planning and scheming ideas for my new place. so this past weekend i took a break from the internet, inhaled way too much clorox fumes cleaning the place, and made myself sore moving and putting away items i don't use on a day-to-basis.
my first design project was to liven up the built in shelving unit, which i achieved by placing patterned specialty papers on the bottom of the shelves. the shelving unit faces the front door, so i think it's a cheerful start to entering the apartment. (i will take pictures after i've moved in.)
i bought the papers from one of my favorite stores in savannah that is sadly closing,
@home. they are having a closing sale which i am taking advantage of. their items are a bit pricey and i wish i hadn't had to wait until it was closing to make purchases from this store. i'll miss it!
my general design ideas are to keep a continuous color scheme: lots of white to make such a small space bigger, green, yellow, and spots of bright color here and there like hot pink, bold blue; and adding vintage touches via storage by replacing some of my bins with old trunks, suitcases, and old boxes.
wish me luck! my little sister in the one with the design gene. not me. :)
