3. Sometimes in love there's no simple fix. Sometimes you just have to hang on… and lead with your heart. - The Wonder Years
These are the things you don't plan for, not really or at least she sure as hell didn't.
She should be ashamed because she knew almost right away that something was wrong. It lingered at the back of her mind even when Cain

He still had no idea how to tell her, and even less clue as to how she'd react.
He didn't want to form an opinion before he knew how she felt, but already he was imagining what she'd look like...she, because Cain wanted a girl. A little blonde girl with Claire's big eyes and stubborn attitude. He could just about see her using her mother's deadly little pout...
Then, of course, there was the thing about her abilities. And the possibility Claire might not want it. Fucking shit, they hadn't even talked about kids yet...
Unlocking the front door, Cain was still lost in visions of tiny fingers and toes, already fretting over prenatal care and bracing himself for the dreaded 'A' word just in case when he called out as he entered the house.
"Claire! Where you at, baby?!"

Oh god, could she show him?
Muttering, she remembered to call out. "I'm up here!" She yelled, then nearly kicked herself because now he was going to come running upstairs and she knew she couldn't lie to him.
Opening the top drawer, she dropped the pregnancy tests inside and quickly closed the drawer before rushing out into the bedroom. She really had no idea what to say to him! They hadn't really discussed kids yet and she wasn't even sure he wanted one.
Oh god, what was she going to do?

Raising an eyebrow, he moved further into the room. Could she...nah. Maybe? It wasn't impossible that maybe she already knew, but she wasn't that far along...
"Babe? You okay?" he asked slowly.

"What? Yes, I'm okay." Sure, her breasts were aching and she felt somewhat nervous which left her feeling dizzy but she was okay!
"You're home early." She looked over at the clock on the bed stand before she turned back to study him. "Everything okay?"

...he didn't marry an idiot. God, she'd probably checked that stupid fucking website he pointed her at and figured it out.
"You're pregnant." he announced after a moment, still watching as she reacted. After a beat, he sighed. "...and I'm willing to bet my salary you already knew that."

As he placed his hands on her hips, she eyed him as there was something shifty about his attitude. He was doing the thing where he knew something and he wasn't sure how to tell her. Sure, it was usually when he was about to tell her that he had to go for a few days or something but she had a feeling it wasn't about that.
Sure enough.
As he announced she was pregnant, she blinked at him for a moment before reaching. "You knew?" She demanded, smacking his arm. "How did YOU know?"

"You had a hunch yesterday?" She looked at him, almost incredulous. "You had a hunch I was pregnant and you didn't say anything to me?" Of course, she had had a hunch too but that wasn't the point.

He trailed off, suddenly assaulted by the heaviest weight of his own fears as he lifted his gaze to meet hers.
"Are we happy about this or what?"

Then suddenly he looked a little upset and nervous before asking her if they were happy.
Standing there, she played her fingers over each other, pushing at one long nail as she squirmed in a nervous manner. She thought about it; inside of her, their baby was starting to grow. A life. One that the two of them had created in their love for each other.
Giving a little smile, she nodded slowly as though unsure of what his response would be. "I am."

Flopping back bonelessly on the bed, Cain heaved the deepest sigh of relief imaginable as his face broke into a rare, glowing smile.
"Thank fuckin' God..."

She breathed a little sigh of relief before the noise became a giggle that bubbled out of her. Moving over to him, she quickly crawled over his lap and smiled down at him.
"Does this mean you're happy?"

He paused, reaching up to take her face between his hands as he pulled her in for a kiss.
"You, me, and tadpole makes three." he quipped, a high-pitched giggle leaving him as he pulled her in for a hug.

Leaning into the kiss, she closed her eyes before laughing softly as she pulled back.
"No, no way! You are not calling our potential daughter or son 'tadpole'. Nuh uh, he or she is not a frog." She giggled softly, her eyes dancing with amusement.
