Betcha didn't expect this.(birthday fun for Sylar and everyone invited to his party)

After Claire found out the address to the house in the Hamptons that Adam bought on a whim, it was fairly easy to convince Sylar where they should head without really telling him what they were going.  She was just a curious girl after all and she wanted to see what the houses were like in the Hamptons because she had heard there were some that ( Read more... )

Adam had gone out early to get the house set up, ensuring Mohinder was appropriately informed and snatched after Claire got Sylar away from him. While Claire had done a lot of the preparations, he'd set things out on the patio leading down to the pool and hung lights up in the garden that could come on as it got later. The furniture was unfortunate, yes, but the former owners promised to have it out by the end of the week, and he'd already arranged to have several things delivered from Montreal.

Lights were out by the pool, ready to be lit, as well as the candle things that kept mosquitoes away, and he had bought a grill that had him near bouncing in glee with all it could do. Cooking might escape him, and baking be his downfall, but he could grill like a pro, dammit, and hadn't gotten to in decades.

Now they just needed the rest to arrive and they were good to go for a christening of the new place with their family for a special occasion, and he was smiling more than he had in a long time.

Ugly though the furniture was, Baileigh had found a comfy chair after helping with the prep work as much as anyone would allow her to, and was sipping at a Shirley Temple and warming her bare feet in a patch of dying sunlight, watching Adam bounce around his grill. She knew better than to approach--it was a well known fact that the searing of dead animal flesh over an open flame was something only those with a penis could do.

"You're making me tired," she pouted at Adam teasingly, fishing a cherry from the bottom of her glass with her straw. "All of the flitting is making me tired. And feel like a lazy schlub. Dude, does that thing have a rotisserie? Seriously?"

"I am not flitting," he said, giving her a highly offended look that he almost ruined by sticking his tongue out. "I am making sure that the grill's at the right temperature for the steaks and the vegetable things for Mohinder ( ... )

Claire dragged Sylar towards the back of the house where she knew the others were gathered most likely because Adam had been babbling excitedly about a grill when she talked to him on the phone.

As soon as she stepped outside and noticed the others, she beamed while holding her arms above her head. "I have succeeded." Her eyes twinkled with humor before she stepped to the side and made a sweeping motion towards Sylar as though she were presenting him.

"Ta-da! The Birthday Boy!" Then she did a dramatic whisper. "Don't mind him, he's a little stunned at the moment. Talk slowly." She quickly stepped out of reach.

Amused at Adam and Sark, Baileigh fished another cherry from her drink and bumped her shoulder lightly against Mohinder's, companionably. "They're such cavemen. It's so cute. They'll have a turkey fryer bought before summer's over, if that thing doesn't already have one."

At Sylar's grand entrance, however, she beamed and got up, tiptoeing carefully so as not to scrape her bare feet to give him a quick hug. "Hey! Happy birthday! Adam bought a house!"

Adam grinned at him. "Surprise? And happy birthday."

Sark lifted his glass of wine, looking amused from where he was leaning against the stone balcony that surrounded the patio. "Happy birthday."

Mohinder moved to meet him to hug him, when he let go of Baileigh, feeling his awe, and the jumble in his thoughts. He brushed a kiss over his cheek with a smile. "Happy birthday, love."

Molly, on the other hand, made a face at the affection Mohinder and Sylar shared.

What? She was ten! Parents -- or a significant other kissing said parent -- kissing was filed under the "totally embarrassing and gross" category. Now Ryan kissing her? Was not.

"Of course we remembered," Mohinder said with a bit of a grin. "Not that I can take any credit for this, as they kept me completely in the dark as well, but I thought we'd do something tomorrow..." Really, he had them dinner reservations and everything, so!

"Don't be ridiculous," Sark chimed in. "After epic paintball matches on my birthday, did you think you were going to get out of it with nothing?" Really, though, he could understand some of the surprise, and shock--that had taken him more than a little aback, himself. He supposed neither of them were really used to this sort of thing.

"And Guitar Hero showdowns for mine," Adam added. "You realize you're stuck with us and some sort of massive something or another, apparently."

"I'm not certain anyone can top buying a castle," Mohinder murmured, glancing up at the tower.

Adam beamed.

"That's kind of why we thought today would be good." She nodded at Mohinder and then grinned. "Plus, I promise I will never keep you out of the loop again." She chuckled a little bit.

She nodded, smirking a bit as she listened to all the things they had done for other people's birthdays so far.

"The castle is awesome." She nodded, looking over at Adam while nudging him in the side. "Speaking of paintballs, we definitely have enough room around here." She looked over the grounds.

"I abstain from all paintball matches until I can run unencumbered," Baileigh chirped, glancing down at her stomach. "Plus, no one will buy my damsel act now, and I'd have to fight fair."

"Pshaw, you can be the referee." She nodded with a chuckle before poking Sylar in the side. "I'm going to grab a drink." She called and ran back inside.

It allowed her to be near the front when Nathan arrived.

So she appeared a couple minutes later, smiling. "Look who I found." She nodded to Nathan.

He smiled slightly. "Hi," he said quietly. He lifted the slightly crumpled gift bag he'd brought and held it out to Sylar. "I see what you're up to," he said, his grin widening. "If you think I'm getting you presents in December too, you're crazy."
