Claire lifted the cup of coffee to her lips, taking a small sip as she glanced over at the time, gauging how much more time she had before noise would erupt over the place. Not that she minded the noise but she had learned to crave and enjoy the moments of silence that she got since it gave her time to get things done. Like cooking breakfast which was the task at the moment; she looked down at the waffle iron, lifting the top a bit to check the progress of the waffle that she was currently making. She had a stack of them already, about four of them and she had two more to make before they would have enough. The bacon was sizzling, the juice was set out and the day was about to begin.
She was still sipping her coffee when a kiss was pressed to the side of her neck, followed by a little nuzzle that had her smiling into her coffee cup before she lowered it to glance over at her husband. "Morning. You smell good." She tilted her head back, taking in the dark wet curls and the freshly shaved face.
"So do you." Gabriel smiled back at her, ducking his head down to press a kiss to her mouth before moving to her side to fix himself some coffee.
"What do we have planned today?" She looked at him curiously, shifting her weight just a bit.
"Mom wants us to stop by later for a visit. We have a doctor's appointment this afternoon too." He wrinkled his nose a bit, a soft and silent complaint but she ignored him a bit.
"Don't give me that look." She murmured, sipping her coffee once more.
"Claire, there is no guarantee that he'll even need the shots. There's a chance he's going to be just like you." Gabriel pointed out with a tiny sigh.
"Look, I'm not fond of him getting the needles either but we won't know for awhile if he will be like me." She tilted her head, "And until we're sure, he is getting his immunization shots." She kept her voice firm.
Gabriel looked like he wanted to argue but as soon as he opened his mouth, they heard the wail through the monitor that was set beside the phone. Claire gave a little smirk, triumphant that she didn't have to listen to the argument any more. She set down her cup, leaning up to kiss his cheek once more before hurrying for the stairs to take them quickly. As she entered the blue and green painted room, her features softened at the sight of her son standing up in his crib, rubbing his eyes. He must have sensed her though, dropping his tiny fists before focusing on her with a growing smile as he grabbed onto the railing of his crib and bounced a little bit, babbling a mile a minute.
He had large brown eyes, much like Gabriel's, and his hair was somewhere between blonde and dark brown, settling more on a dark caramel shade. His mouth and his nose were Claire's but definitely, he was his father's son. Every time she looked at him, she could feel a tiny tug on her heart strings. "Come here, Noah." She cooed softly, sliding her hands under his armpits as she hefted him up as best as she could, giving a little grunt as she moved him to her side. "Oopsie, someone is wet." She kissed his forehead while carrying him over to his changing table.
She was half way through dressing him, getting his pants on, when Gabriel loped into the room. Most likely impatient at her taking so long and wanting to see their son, he was never one to move away from Noah for long. "Did you guys decide to hole up in the nursery all day?" He teased, his eyes twinkling before he moved over to her side to smile down at Noah who grinned at him around the teething ring that he had jammed into his mouth a ways.
"He's trying to convince me not to take him to the doctor's." Claire smirked a bit, reaching for Noah's socks to get them onto his feet. Always a fun task as he seemed to think she was trying to tickle him whenever she set about the task, so it was often filled with a lot of giggling and Claire laughing as she tried to pin his legs down. Usually Gabriel had to help.
Once Noah was dressed, Gabriel scooped him up, eager to hold him as he pressed a kiss to his temple. "C'mon big man, time for breakfast and then we have a whole day of running around." That statement earned a little groan from Claire as she moved to put the diaper in the little diaper genie, twisting the top as she sealed the wet diaper in its own little bag and then moved to follow them downstairs for breakfast.
Their days were always busy, filled with noise and constant movement. Claire had thought high school was crazy but it was nothing compared to being a wife and a mother. Not that she wanted to trade any of it in except for maybe when Noah cried at getting a needle to his arm and one to his leg. She was thankful those happened only every few months. But her days were usually filled with going to a store, cooking, visiting, playing, cleaning, listening to kid songs as well as kid shows over and over. She loved her days but she was always grateful for the moments of silence.
Like now, the house was silent as the night wrapped itself around their side of the world. She sighed as she dropped the last toy into the toy box before glancing up at the sight of her husband coming down the stairs. She smiled a little bit at the sight of him, her head tilting as she waited for him to reach her. "Did he go to sleep okay?"
"Out like a light. You must have tired him out today." Gabriel chuckled, bringing a hand up to touch the side of her face before leaning down to kiss her softly.
"No, you have your mom to thank for that. Then both of them exhausted me." She groaned, leaning against him.
"My poor girl." He chuckled, lifting a hand to thread his fingers through her long curls. "What did they do?"
"We went to the furniture store." She started to smile a little at the confused look on his face, "We were looking at big boy beds for Noah. He likes the race car one we saw."
"He's a little small for a big bed, Claire."
"He's nearly two; Gabriel and well, we're going to need him to take the big bed soon." Her smile turned coy, "We're going to need the crib again in about...seven months."
"In seven months? What's happening in..." Then Gabriel's eyes widened as the intuitive ability kicked in, looking shocked before suddenly a wide smile broke out on his face. He caught her tightly in his arms, wrapping them around her waist before hauling her up clean off her feet. Not that it was a hard task to do. He kissed her soundly then, muffling her laugh as she wrapped her arms around him.
