10 Merlin song drabbles

Mar 22, 2009 19:46

1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn your music player on and turn it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble/ficlet related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it's over. No lingering afterward!
4. Do ten of these, then post them.

I chose the Merlin fandom, as for pairings…I decided to let the songs inspire me. *shrug* I’m a slave to my Muse’s whims, what can I say? :) Also, 6/10 of these feature Morgana. Apparently my brain thinks she doesn’t get enough love. Well, she doesn’t. *pout* ;) Also, Merlin/Morgana = NEW OTP! (After Merlin/Arthur, of course. :D) Uhm, things to warn for…angst, slash, character death. Nothing explicit, more left to the imagination than anything else. Enjoy the drabbles, and remember-comments are my crack and much better for me!

1.Starstruck, by Yellowcard
Once Merlin arrived in Camelot, even after his disastrous run-in with Arthur, he couldn’t help but be a little impressed. Even though he was clearly an enormous prat, there was still something about him that Merlin couldn’t help but like. ‘The golden prince’, they called him, and indeed, he shone like the sun. And so he wished on the next shooting star, that someday Arthur would see him for who he really was.

2.Impossible, by Whitney Houston & Brandy
Even though she told herself it was impossible, Gwen secretly dreamed of being queen. After Uther died, whoever Arthur married would rule the kingdom with him, even if only in name. Even so, she thought she might be able to do some real good. Which is why she never saw Arthur’s proposal coming-completely blindsided. Of course she said yes, and she didn’t think she’d ever seen Arthur so happy.

3.Still Here, by Kristian Valen
10 years after Morgana left Camelot, 5 years after Uther died, she finally returned. Arthur welcomed her back with open arms, and she was grateful. But it wasn’t his love she was seeking, it was Merlin’s. She’s sorry she left, and he knows she had to go, but that didn’t stop her absence from being an ache in his heart. But now that she has come back, things can go back to the way they were. He tells her this, and she calls him an optimistic fool-nothing can be as it once was. She does not say it to hurt him, but to prepare him for what is coming. Their world is going to change.

4.Boston, by Augustana
Morgana stands at the edge of the sea, breathing in the salt air. This is the only place she has ever felt at home, where she has ever known any peace. The water is something that can never be tamed, slowly wearing the land away little by little. Somewhere out there, she knows, is the Isle of Avalon, where Arthur slumbers, waiting to be called back to defend England. She has been looking for many lifetimes of men, Merlin faithfully by her side. She doesn’t know if she’d survive the search without him. In the end, he was the only one who truly accepted her and her dreams for what they were. He understood one could not be without the other. Merlin takes her hand, and they set sail in the boat that will take them to their king.

5.Behind These Hazel Eyes, by Kelly Clarkson
Merlin doesn’t know how everything managed to go so spectacularly wrong. One minute, he and Arthur are happy, the next…Arthur’s gone and gotten himself married. To Gwen, of all people. And even though Arthur tries to tell him that nothing will change, that they can continue as they were, Merlin knows differently. Cheating on Gwen would eat at Arthur’s sense of honor, and eventually, be it in two weeks, two months, or however long, it would end. But Merlin refused to let Arthur see him cry. And for now, he would take what he could get.

6.I Don’t Feel Like Dancing, by Scissor Sisters
Arthur hates banquets and feasts. Boring speeches, pointless small talk, and he’s forced to dance with the eligible women and visiting daughters. Most of them can’t hold an intelligent conversation to save their lives; they’re much too busy simpering at him and fluttering their eyelashes. Once the party is over and he’s back in his chambers, he and Merlin take great pleasure in imitating them (well, mocking, not to put too fine a point on it). Merlin’s actually getting quite good at impersonating Lady Elise, the wife of one of Uther’s advisers. Arthur’s quite sure Merlin’s heard every variation of his ‘I-hate-dancing’ complaint, but that doesn’t stop him from commiserating each and every time. And it is in these moments, just the two of them, when Arthur realizes just how much he loves Merlin.

7.As Long As You’re Mine, from Wicked
It isn’t much, but it’s all they have. A kiss in the shadows, a few stolen moments when no one’s around. If it were up to her, Gwen would shout her joy and love from the rooftops, but Morgana insists it’s better this way. She tells Gwen that most people won’t understand what they have, and Gwen wants desperately to believe her. She knows Morgana will eventually have to marry someone chosen for her by Uther, but until that day comes, she will keep Morgana to herself as much as she possibly can.

8.Candle In The Wind, by Elton John
It’s a fitting goodbye. Arthur has made sure of it, overseeing all the details himself, something he rarely did. He even said a few words at the service, a rare moment of true emotion that few people rarely saw. He talks of her courage, her beauty, her love for helping people less fortunate. The way her eyes sparkled when she laughed, the way she got angry on behalf of the people she loved. He’s going to make sure she’ll be remembered, long after he and his court are a memory. He will pass on the story of the courageous, beautiful, flawed human being that made up the wonderful Morgana that he had loved.

9.I’m A Bitch, by Meredith Brooks
Morgana knows she is not the easiest person in the world to get along with. She was raised as a noblewomen, ordering people around comes as naturally to her as breathing. Merlin has seen her at every extreme it seems possible for her to reach, and yet he hasn’t walked away yet. He’s obviously a stronger man than Arthur gave him credit for, she decided. The fact that he stubbornly clings to what they have, how he refuses to give up even when it seems like she’s doing all she can to push him away…it’s inspiring. And maddening, can’t forget that. But when he takes her in his arms, when he kisses her neck and smoothes her hair back, all she can think about is him. Just him, and how she’s never going to let him go.

10.The Diary of Jane, by Breaking Benjamin
They’ve been to this place many times before, and each time they swear they will never come back. And yet they always do, simply because they cannot help themselves, because of who they are. The Crown Prince and the King’s Ward, two people who cannot, and by all rights should not be together, and yet here they are. Their pride makes them foolish, they say things they don’t mean, and then they reconcile and promise never to do it again. But when Morgana looks into Arthur’s eyes, she knows they will. They can’t help it.
