Simple Date

Pete was nice enough to take me on a little date yesterday afternoon.  We never get to have them anymore because the money is so tight, which really, in essence sucks.

I hate money.  I always have.  I try not to get greedy, but every now and then, I need a little treat to keep me going.  We all do I think.  A night out at the movies.  A quiet dinner out where the dog and cat won't interrupt or beg.  It's hard to get that when your bank account is so tight and spoken for.

If anything, it puts us on edge.  One night when you'd like to enjoy a glass a wine with a nice pasta dish, you are again reduced to A&W with a side of mac and cheese.  Ramen becomes the soup to your sandwich.  And when you're on the run, the dollar menu is your friend.  I feel like a college student again when I've been out of school for about four years.

And it's not just food either.  You have to get creative with how you keep yourself busy.  Video games have become the norm.  I am a frequent visitor to the library during the week, not just to job hunt, but for a change of scenery.  I find myself losing five games of Solitaire (real playing cards) a night.  The good news is I'm writing more.  A lot more.  I mean, I going to finish my first novel very, very soon, but at the same time I would enjoy the little break.

So the little one we had yesterday was nice.  We ended up going to Barnes and Noble to walk around and browse.  They had a big sale going, so Pete bought me a new notebook to fill for a couple of dollars.  He knows that's one of my favorite things to receive and play with.  Then we shared a basket of buffalo wings which we both had been craving like crazy for a while.  It was just so nice to have that little escape.

I think that's one thing I'm looking forward to when I find a job.  We'll be able to have that little relief every now and then.
