Mt Fuji

Tokyo is big and much prettier in the urban kind of way at night when all the lights are turn on. I am writing it here because I forgot to mention it in my last post. I was tired and indeed I went to sleep rather early.

Today we had an extra early wake up - 6:30 and the plan for today was to see Mt. Fuji, the most important site, let alone mountain in Japan. And see it we did! It took using almost all means of transportation known to man [regular train, superexpress train, cable car, rope way, bus] to get there and then back to Tokyo, but we made it and it was fun all the way.

First the mountain. At first, it was hard for me to comprehend the significance of the mountain, but when I saw it (well, first I heard the gasp of the people with me at the cable car) from a far in all its magnificence (truly) I got it. This volcano had its top covered in snow, visible from a far and so different from the other mountains. I guess that now I get it.

Another stop on the way that is well worth mentioning is the Hakone Open Museum. This is a museum of modern sculptures (with special place showcasing Picasso's art). I like the place from the start because they accepted my student card from Israel and gave me the student discount (the first time I used that card, woot!), secondly (and of course more importantly), for the interesting sculptures and 3D pieces of art that are out in the gardens. You can even touch some. Thirdly, because they had slides and a foot bath (with water whose temperature ranged between 40 and 65 degrees).

We got to Tokyo around 6 in the afternoon. Tired, but happy. It seems like thus concludes our trips around Tokyo. Tomorrow we are staying local and in the morning meeting with a volunteer guide who is going to take us around Tokyo. That should be interesting. Will report soon.
