Day 82: Brave New Worlds

Apr 29, 2008 22:38

I miss the sense of discovery.

Do you remember when you were a kid and the world was so big and so unknowable and every day you learned something new?

What atoms are, and how they make up everything.

Fire consumes oxygen.

Photosynthesis.

The Great Wall of China can be seen from space.

Rome conquered most of the known world.

Alexander the Great did it first.

The moon influences the tides.

Cuttlefish!

Do you remember when you used to come home from school, or the museum, or up from the floor after watching the Discovery Channel excited to tell someone what you just learned or to find something else to devour so you can learn more about the world around you?

Where is that when you get older?  Why can’t I be blown away by what’s around me every day?
