Once Upon a Time in Wonderland 1x01: Pilot [Twu Wuv, Vol. 9000]

Oct 11, 2013 21:11

I had decided to post only fandom-y reaction posts here, but Being Human people are apparently a fandom on their own, so here it goes: a reaction post to the show about Tom McNair traipsing around Wonderland.

LOL, says the person who watches Teen Wolf. ;))))))) But yes, the pilot was terrible. I just never expected it to be anything but b/c that's how OUAT is! XD
Oh, Michael was gorgeous! Can we just cut off everyone else and leave him to run his own show? I forgot to mention one big fear of mine though: what if he's in love with Alice? Knowing OUAT, it's quite possible! But it would be so LAME and banal! That's a very big DO NOT WANT!
Maybe we'll get lucky and land some Jafar/Knave subtext instead. Yes please! Considering they're the two best actors in this show, very much yes to this! XD

That's what I love about Tumblr: why do we even need shows when we can have gifs? I think that's about to become my way of keeping up to date with SPN because I'm not sure I can continue tormenting myself. Then again, I might just get very bored again. XD
I heard something about a possible Alice/Cyrus/Knave love triangle.

I think that you enjoyed the pilot more than I did as a whole (probably due at least in part to having more of a positive connection to the source material and adaptions than I do - I haven't read the books, and am only mildly embarrassed to admit that my favorite Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass adaption is the 1985 made for TV 2-part film. This is mostly due to nostalgia. But also, it's a musical! It had people dressed in animal costumes! It had cameos from loads of 80's stars! It's so cheesy ( ... )

I have a vast amount of patience when it comes to OUAT. The shit they're doing to their characters calls for that. I'm pretty sure this spin-off will be no different. *sigh* But Michael Socha is all the reason I need to keep watching.
Hmm, I may have seen this adaptation. Not quite sure. I love the books very much (what acid was the author on? XD) and I have a general liking for stories where a character from one world travels to another world and has to adapt (that's why I was willing to give Sleepy Hollow a chance and that's why I like adult!Alice in Wonderland more than the original kid!Alice: it's much easier for a kid to take Wonderland in stride while a grown up would question everything and that would generate conflict).
I would be all right with the Red Queen's age (it could even be interesting: making her around Alice's age) if the actress was okay, but... argh. Her acting is wooden, her voice is annoying, she looks kind of like a Barbie on crack, and I just don't like her.
At least Snow and Charming were a bit warm and ( ... )

I was pretty patient with OUaT until I just kinda stopped watching it regularly mid-season 2 and since then I've had a much harder time getting back into it. Suddenly everything seemed worse and started bothering me more. They just put the whole second season on Netflix here though, so I'm still thinking that I might try to catch up.

Wikipedia link to 1985 TV adaption. I watched it when it aired as a kid. We taped it and my sisters and I watched it repeatedly until the VHS cassette started to wear out. I still get the songs from this stupid thing stuck in my head at times. It's terrible (and excellent. But probably actually just terrible ( ... )

Hmm, no, I think I've confused this one with a different show. But I have heard about it. I think we were supposed to watch it at uni a few years ago, but I cut that class.
Right now I think I'm kind of itching for her to get tossed out of that castle by Jafar or something, even if just so that she'll end up a little unkempt and less stiff and polished. Hahaha, yes please! I don't know, they could have just cast Paris Hilton if they wanted someone blond and shallow-looking. But Paris Hilton can actually act sometimes.
Oh, right, I was referring to 1x03 (I think) that tells the story of how Snow and Charming met. Before that I hadn't thought about them much b/c it was such a canonically fairy tale pairing.
I'm sure we'll get flashbacks. We even got them in the pilot already. But yeah, not much hope there. Anyhow, we have Michael. ;) Let's focus on the positive... until he falls in love with Alice. >_

I like Alice and the Knave is fantastic. I'm curious enough to keep watching although I imagine it may go the way of OUAT in that I'll eventually get fed up and stop lol.
