She thinks Dominic ought to have something normal. She changes her mind when he almost runs Grandma over.

I like your Mommy Rook sooo much more than the bland housewife I'd imagined by default. She got character! Which is only logical - who else would marry Daddy Rook? XD

Father says nothing on the way home. If he is angry, he doesn’t show it. He never shows it.

eeek, it's awful for a child to grow up with such a parent :/

The scene with the monster under the bed, holy fuck!

Dominic wanting to redeem himself before his father (echoes both Tom's and Cutler's "Daddy" issues). Seeing a child apply the grown-up logic so meticulously and his fear being almost palpable creates a genuinely scary atmosphere, and it doesn't matter that I as a reader do know that there is no monster under the bed - I still see it)))

DOMINIC WITH A REVOLVER oh god

He would like to have one now. He wonders how hard he should hit his nose in order to induce a nosebleed.I love all the hints of the adult Dominic in this kid))) He's the opposite of innocent ( ... )

Awww)) Well, she probably is a housewife, but I decided that Daddy Rook wouldn't lie to her about his work, so she knows full well what he does and is half-proud half-annoyed about it. XD And she certainly doesn't want him to start screwing Dommy up so soon. XD
Now on top of the stopwatch, gun and pen, we can ship Dommy with a vacuum cleaner. XD
I have a thing for manipulative kids, it seems. XD Told you: he has no right to dislike vampire children. He was creepy as a human child too. XDDD
Daddy Rook is the epitome of parenting: kid takes a gun - good job, son! XD
And Rook himself is the epitome of... idk what, but thank God he doesn't have children because he'd masterfull fuck them up too. I was actually on the fence about writing the ending as it was b/c he basically breaks the kid's already traumatised psyche by telling him that the monsters might still catch up with him. But I figured that was smth Rook would do. He did say he'd done a lot of shit that would haunt him. XD
I'm so glad you liked this! <333 Thank you so much!

I'm glad that you went with this ending, then, bc it seems exactly what Rook would say in that situation. Creepy bastard <3

I'm still clinging to shreds of decency in my characters but this past year (BH and Q) really taught me to write proper bastards)))) I tried before but it was more like a rehearsal. XD

What a perfect story. A very plausible extrapolation of what sort of childhood would produce that sort of man. And do I need to say how gorgeous the writing is? Well, I'll say it anyway: once again, you've managed to say so much with so few words, beautifully put together. :)

If I had to pick one line that summed it up: He wonders how hard he should hit his nose in order to induce a nosebleed.

Excellent stuff! You write Rook so much better than the actual series writers. (Why, yes, I am bitter about episode 4!)

Thank you, darling! <3 I have no idea where these bunnies come from. Maybe I'm overcompensating for my dissatisfaction (to put it mildly) with canon. XD
LOL, this ep (which I haven't seen yet) has been described to me as "abysmal". At least now I know what to expect. My poor flist in turn can expect a rant from me tomorrow evening. XD But maybe I'll get more stupid plot bunnies. That's some consolation, right?

I am completely knackered, and my brain is barely functioning, but the sheer power of my anger is compelling me to write a ranty reaction post. You have been warned! (And I suspect that the last two episodes are only going to get worse.) T_T

Ouch))) Now I'm intrigued. But it'll probably be wiser for me to watch the ep first. But I'll read your post and rant with you sooner or later in any case. XD
*sigh* It says a lot that we expect the worst now. I've spent this hour making cracky comments about the mild spoilers Shiro was telling me as she watched and I said to her that it would never have been possible to watch series 4 and the previous ones like that. They were so good you never wanted to get distracted. Now we're just making fun to cope with anger. :(

Awwww. *blushes* Thank you so much! <333
"Used to be" sounds so sad. :(((
Aren't we all happy that Dominic isn't married and has no kids? XDDD Growing up with that for a Daddy would be... "jolly creepy". XDDD (I can't stop giggling over this.)
this is so clinical and CSI-like, and why wouldn't it be when Rook is the subject LOL, lately canon!Rook has been anything but that. XDDD
Has the show totally killed your inspiration? *puppy eyes* I keep waiting for you to write smth. :))

OMG epic gifs! I'm just writing my reaction post and I was just saying how much I loved his crazy faces! <333 Poor Rook, his life sucks so much right now. XDDD
Rook was just giving me life in this episode. I'm starting to love him. LMAO! You have no idea how happy this makes me feel. XDDD I know he has issues (b/c the writers are just idiots this year) but I keep coming up with a multitude of reasons for him to be this way, so I'm glad I'm no delusional and he really has something that makes people like him. XD
Haha, and yet Cutler wasn't nearly as hysterical. That awkward moment when even Cutler has more composure. XDD Actually, Cutler acted: he went to talk to the Old Ones and then to kill Eve. For someone who's such a loser, Cutler surprisingly doesn't whine... at all. XD
I'm sorry to hear that... but I can relate. T_T GT suffers because every time I even think of writing Hal, I get so angry that my mind goes blank. I hope you get out of that state though... <3

This was lovely - the voice is spot on, and young Rook's struggle with the vacuum is now part of my personal canon.

Thank you! :) Unfortunately I think canon turned out to be quite different...

Pffft - if I didn't let Joss 'Joss' me without a fight, I'm certainly not going to pay attention to Toby Whithouse's clearly erroneous history of Rook. ;)

Haha, good approach! I'm a bit of a canon Nazi tbh XD I find it hard to ignore canon, that's why I love the idea of the dream in the finale. It gives me such freedom XD
