She thinks Dominic ought to have something normal. She changes her mind when he almost runs Grandma over.

I like your Mommy Rook sooo much more than the bland housewife I'd imagined by default. She got character! Which is only logical - who else would marry Daddy Rook? XD

Father says nothing on the way home. If he is angry, he doesn’t show it. He never shows it.

eeek, it's awful for a child to grow up with such a parent :/

The scene with the monster under the bed, holy fuck!

Dominic wanting to redeem himself before his father (echoes both Tom's and Cutler's "Daddy" issues). Seeing a child apply the grown-up logic so meticulously and his fear being almost palpable creates a genuinely scary atmosphere, and it doesn't matter that I as a reader do know that there is no monster under the bed - I still see it)))

DOMINIC WITH A REVOLVER oh god

He would like to have one now. He wonders how hard he should hit his nose in order to induce a nosebleed.

I love all the hints of the adult Dominic in this kid))) He's the opposite of innocent already.

God forbid I gave your more children so you could ruin them too! Mother snarls.

Badass!

He takes a step back. Father stays where he is, framed by the doorway.

He narrows one eye and winks.

Unexpected))) But so British <3

Grief is a strange thing. It drives some people into a frenzy but it makes others numb.

Dominic lives by the values his father has bequeathed him. Modesty. Composure. Dedication. Faith. Perseverance.

Dommy in a nutshell)))

His grief becomes his dedication and he hides behind those ideals.

“Yes, they are.” Rook leans into him. “But you can’t tell anyone. Because if you do-” He brings his mouth closer to the boy’s ear and whispers: “They will find you.”

And so it goes.

Brilliant stuff <3 (and ttly accepted as canon :D)

Awww)) Well, she probably is a housewife, but I decided that Daddy Rook wouldn't lie to her about his work, so she knows full well what he does and is half-proud half-annoyed about it. XD And she certainly doesn't want him to start screwing Dommy up so soon. XD
Now on top of the stopwatch, gun and pen, we can ship Dommy with a vacuum cleaner. XD
I have a thing for manipulative kids, it seems. XD Told you: he has no right to dislike vampire children. He was creepy as a human child too. XDDD
Daddy Rook is the epitome of parenting: kid takes a gun - good job, son! XD
And Rook himself is the epitome of... idk what, but thank God he doesn't have children because he'd masterfull fuck them up too. I was actually on the fence about writing the ending as it was b/c he basically breaks the kid's already traumatised psyche by telling him that the monsters might still catch up with him. But I figured that was smth Rook would do. He did say he'd done a lot of shit that would haunt him. XD
I'm so glad you liked this! <333 Thank you so much!

I'm glad that you went with this ending, then, bc it seems exactly what Rook would say in that situation. Creepy bastard <3

I'm still clinging to shreds of decency in my characters but this past year (BH and Q) really taught me to write proper bastards)))) I tried before but it was more like a rehearsal. XD
