OMFG, c'est moi!

I last left you with notice of my existence in January! What's 11 months in the great scheme of things anyway? Suffice to say, I'm alive and things are going well. I've probably left it a bit too late to update you about the myriad of activities I've undertaken to date this year, so I'll leave you with a succinct overview ( Read more... )

first: I AM SO JEALOUS. if my brain wasn't lazy and I weren't doing an arts degree, I'd be doing an astrophysics/maths degree. I've considered going back once I finish arts, simply 'cos I love science, but I don't think the government really wants to finance it. damn. so I'm just exceedingly jealous, because I'd really love to be studying what you are. really. but I can't be in arts and science headspace at once, and since I'm already in arts ... yeah. sorry, this wasn't meant to be about me!!

hmmm - why did you add *me*? I'm hardly interesting compared to your sciency-mathematical-musical melange!

also - klein bottles. awesome awesome. I read about them on xkcd, I think, a while back and ... yeah. they're just cool. or I'm easily amused & impressed. either way.

happy birthday!

why did you add *me*?

Do you know how hard it is to find people with epistemophilia that extend beyond one incredibly narrow discipline? I have artsy friends that glaze their eyes over when I start using multi-syllabic words pertaining to the fundamentals of the universe; but on the other hand dogmatic scientists who wish to enervate the tertiary system by "kicking out anything that isn't maths or physics, because they shouldn't be taught at university".

You might not be able to live in both science and arts headspaces at once, but I have difficulty not doing that, so I'm constantly looking for people who are happy to converse about both. I expect people to have opinions about things, but be able to back these opinions up with reasonable arguments - not just quackery or bare assertion fallacy like most of my current friends are ( ... )

*laughing*

well, I did only just learn what sesquipedalian means, but I do so love it! the trick is to find a word is suitably can replace, and mentally associate the two, so instead of saying that word, you say "ses ..." and so on. it's fun. it's even more fun when nobody asks you what you mean because they don't know.

and I am happy to converse on both, and back up my arguments as substantially as I can. half of what I say is speculation/thought, a quarter is pure fact, and a quarter is "I'm pretty sure that ...".

I'm assuming you've never heard of the word echo phenomenon before? ;)

Yes, Matt did give me an extreme ironing calendar everyone. Unfortunately he drunk the rest of my extreme present because he was thirsty.

Happy birthday mate!

That's a sweet klein bottle. I don't know what I'd do with one, but it'd be cool to have :P

Good luck with your results, too. :D
