Case File #2 ☁ [video]

[When the SFC turns on, you're greeted to a close-up of Ema's left eye. She sets the device down and steps back, with a grin on her face that's more than a little proud. Her goggles are on and she's wearing a pair of latex gloves; she's holding a white spray bottle and in one hand and what appears to be a white shirt in the other (bandaged) hand. ( Read more... )

... I don't think cutting your hand was necessary for that test.

...that part was just a coincidence. Actually, it's what inspired me to do the demonstration in the first place.

Oh. [He doesn't seem perturbed by this. He just cocks his head to the right.] Why?

I had a bit of an accident with some broken glass, and this shirt was all I had on hand to clean up the blood. I was about to get rid of it when it hit me: why throw it out when it could be used for science?

Oh.

...Do you need stitches?

Hadn't really thought about that.

[Slowly, carefully, she unwraps the bandages around her palm. She hadn't taken a very good look at the cut in the first place, after the bleeding started.]

I'm no doctor, but it doesn't look too bad...? [It's much more of a question then a statement.]

[His teacher instincts kick in - she looks young, and a little worried about the wound to him. He casually eyes the wound, raising an eyebrow. He can't really see it, due to the odd angle, and he shrugs.]

You need to check if there's any glass in the wound. It'll have to be fairly deep to need stitches. I don't mind doing it for you, but I don't have any anesthesia.

If it's not too deep, I'd suggest just cleaning it out and binding it tightly. If you have any antibiotics, I'd use that on it, as well. It should heal in a few days.

[She pulls a face at the the thought of having to pull glass out of her own had, before holding her palm up toward the screen.]

It doesn't feel like there's anything lodged in there. And it's not bleeding anymore - that's always a good sign, right? Still need to clean it out, though.

[He leans closer to the screen, scrutinizing it.]

I don't see anything.

[Leaning back again, he carries on:]

Just press here and there on the wound. You'll be able to tell if there's anything in there. Keep a careful eye out when you're cleaning it out, too. How clean was the glass shard? One long piece, or was it crumbling?

[Pulling her hand back, she pokes at it very gently and winces. It's a long, thin cut, tracing a path diagonally across her palm, but it's not very deep.]

Just one big piece. Curved, too, if that makes a difference...I dropped an empty beaker.

...Curved is very different. If it went deep enough in, it could do some serious damage.

It doesn't look very deep from here. I'd have to see it in person to know for sure, but I'm sure you can piece it together yourself.

How much worse? It's not too painful, and like I said, the bleeding's stopped.

[She stops before she gets too far ahead of herself. His offer's reassuring; now that she thought about it, he'd seemed to know exactly what to do the whole time.]

You wouldn't happen to be a doctor, by any chance?

It could do more damage curving in. It wouldn't look deep because the wound would curve.

...Yes, I am.

Then I know who to call if it gets worse, right?

[he nods.]

Make sure you use disinfectant.

[He goes to turn off the feed.]
