friday was my birthday. i didn't have to work, but my co-workers got my boyfriend to take me out to lunch at Cucos Mexican restaurant and they all surprised me there. well.... ok, i knew about it, my bf told me. but it was still lots of fun. after lunch, tim, my bf, took the rest of the day off to spend with me. we went antique shopping!! i bought a small 1980's Care Bears mug that is in perfect condition, the colors are still so vibrant!! then we went to my place and i took a lovely little nap while he played Call Of Duty on my gamecube. i woke up around 4, ran by the post office, then tim and i chiiled at my place while we tried to decide where to have dinner. finally, we picked Chesterfield's, a local place that is pretty much as "up-scale" as it gets around here. there are a couple nicer places around, but Chesterfield's is nice too, just not in the "you must wear a tie to get in" way. anyhow, we had an absolutely delectible meal there, a few cocktails, then headed to his house for the night.
saturday morning, we woke up early (for the weekend) and set off for New Orleans. holy hell, it turned out to be HELLA COLD there!! it is always quite windy in nola (that's New Orleans, Louisiana abbreviation, btw), but i was not expecting it to be sooooooo cold. the wind cut through you like ICE!! of course, being the genius that i am, i didn't bring anything but a woven sweater-like cape / poncho thing, so i was freezing the whole time. but we had SUCH A GREAT TIME!! first stop was Magazine Street. it's just a cool, "hip" little area with all kinds of local eateries, neat shops, etc. my plan was to find every vintage clothing shop on the entire street. we did pretty good, found about 4, then had lunch at the ABSOLUTE BEST PLACE TO EAT IN THE ENTIRE CITY OF NEW ORLEANS: the FLying Burrito. i had the burrito called the Gutter Punk, which is a term used.... well i don't know, is it used outside of new orleans, or just there? anyways, it's a term for, like, street kids, except they are .... gutter punks. anyways, it was soooooooo yummy. in fact just thinking about it is making my mouth water. next we headed to Decatur street, same plan, find all the vintage clothing shops. not as much luck there, but eventually we met up with my friends Dee Dee and Jeremy. we shopped around some, then went to dinner at Samurai Sushi. again, so damn yummy i could barely stand it. after that, i was so wiped i had to go back to our hotel room and re-energize.... which never actually happened, i just fell asleep.
Sunday, tim and i went to the Audubon Zoo. Tim decided to become a member, so now we can go there as many times as we want, pay no admission fees, and get discounts everywhere in the zoo, for a whole year! oh, we are also members at the aquarium now too. :D
the zoo was really great. my favorite exhibits were the elephants and the giraffes. :D
that was my weekend. i am sad it is over. :(
