My computer has been having some problems lately. It would overheat and reboot itself in shorter and shorter intervals. Because it also has a problem shutting itself off, I decided it was probably the power supply giving out. I went out to Best Buy and bought one that's almost twice as powerful, mostly because it cost less than the one 100W smaller than it. After bringing it home, I figured I would need to take nearly everything out of my computer in order to replace the power supply. As it turns out, there was a surprise waiting for me under my CPU fan: a warren of dust bunnies had wedged themselves underneath the fan onto the heat sinks. About as useful as a fur coat in a heat wave. Without all the wires and such in the way, I was able to dust all the nooks and crannies that weren't accessible before, so I don't expect to have my computer restart on me for quite a while.
I still replaced the power supply, just to see if I could do it right. So far, so good. But I noticed how much quieter it is than my old one. When I started Firefox to type this out, I noticed the hard drive spinning up. I haven't heard that for years! And I didn't realize that I couldn't hear it until today. I had just been looking at the LED on the front to check for activity.
It's the little things that get me, you know?
