I also have an idea for a much happier drabble so expect that one soonish. FOR NOW, LET'S GO WITH SAD YEEEEAH.

It's told backwards.

Prompt: Going Home and Bad End
Title: Reversed

He gasps, clawing at his sides to distract himself from the pain that is searing through his chest. Air is coming at him in short bursts, and soon he's not getting any at all. The only thing he can manage is to tighten his grip on the stone, and hope that a miracle happens.

It doesn't. All he hears is the excited murmurs of immortality, and even that is hard to pick out. He thinks he recognizes one of the voices except at this point it's hard to tell. There's no point anymore anyway.

He realizes that the stars have vanished, and he begins to panic. It finally hits him that it's just that his vision is beginning to deteriorate. Soon all his senses are gone except for the feeling that something is being tugged out of his fist, and even that sensation is fleeting. He's not in pain anymore.

He just wanted to make them proud.

---

He laughs, loudly and full of glee, as he runs through the busy street. Conan is right behind him, and while he's a bit annoyed that the kid took down his glider, the thief is enjoying himself anyway. There's a mantra going through his head: I found it, I found it, I found it.

He kisses the gem, and shoots his pursuer an amused look. He knows that he's going to have to lose him soon; he can't let himself get caught now. Deciding to take a chance, he sprints into a dense crowd, hoping that it'll be enough to work.

It is. Congratulating himself, he takes a shortcut into an alleyway in order to take off his disguise.

Something hits him.

---

He tells Aoko that he can't go to the movies with her because he has other plans. She's disappointed, but he assures her that they can hang out tomorrow. Tonight's really important, he insists, and there's no way he can miss it. She gives in.

"Why can't you just skip the heist?" Akako asks.

He replies that he doesn't know what she's talking about, and his only intention for that night is to keep a promise. He won't have another chance to.

---

He's walking her home, again, after another frenetic day on the island. He keeps apologizing for letting them fall into that river, and she ignores him in return. She can't keep it going though, and she finally whirls around towards him in order to yell, but he catches her off guard.

"You have really pretty eyes, Tear."

She blushes, and mutters: "Where did that come from?"

"I don't know, but I'm going to miss them," he's frowning, but it's soon replaced by his usual grin. "When I go back to my world, I'm going to find a jewel that matches their color. I'll steal it for you."

They stop as she struggles to reply. Finally, she nods and flashes him one of her rare smiles.

"Alright, Kaito. Make me proud."
