Challenge: Christmas/Winter
Title: Intervention

Emiri didn't care how odd she looked to any of the islanders as she headed back to the hut, constantly correcting her steps to dance away from any suspicious-looking holiday plants. As someone well-versed in the diabolical nature of Island-brand mistletoe, she had no intention of being caught off-guard this time. No, this year, she wasn't going to be forced to kiss any of her friends-- or, in the worst case scenario, someone like Vergil or the talking dustbunny on steroids that called himself a hedgehog.

She'd been lucky so far, though, she could admit. Although Kazu wasn't here, Minato had been the only one she'd been trapped under the mistletoe with, and that had been... well, it hadn't been bad, but thinking about it too much made her feel inexplicably awkward and uncomfortable, which in turn made her frustrated because there was no reason behind feeling either of those things.

Or, really, there was, but the only logical reason offered made her all the more determined not to dwell on it.

The loud and cocky voice of her leader calling her name was (for once) a welcome distraction, and Emiri pulled free from her thoughts and looked up. Sure enough, there was Ikki walking in her direction, one hand raised in greeting.

"Out looking for Christmas offerings for your god?" he asked cheerfully, bestowing her with a pat on the head (and ignoring the warning look she gave him). "As expected from my loyal minion!"

"I'm telling Sion-san you touched me inappropriately," Emiri retorted just as brightly. "Her boiling passion ought to keep you warm for the rest of the month!"

Ikki heaved a sigh, catching the hint and moving his hand. "No need to be jealous, Adachi, it makes you even more of a gorilla-- huh, is that plant moving?"

Emiri glanced up, already tensing, and discovered that her suspicions were confirmed. There was a clump of mistletoe moving at a steady pace towards them, and there was no time to make a break for it. She'd probably have to endure Sion's punch again for being caught kissing her boyfriend, which was bad enough, but the very thought of kissing Ikki was even worse.

So much for being protected from this, was her last thought, shortly before a flash of dark blue caught her eye and a hand gently caught hold of her chin and tipped it up just enough for the owner to capture her lips.

Emiri froze. Ikki blinked. And Minato straightened, released her chin, gave her a faint smile, and walked away with his hands in his pockets while the mistletoe (its purpose fulfilled even if one person had been replaced with another) drifted off.

There was a moment of silence, in which both Storm Riders tried to figure out what had just happened. And then Ikki broke it.

"Are you sure you two aren't going out?"
