food and fic (and drink and art?)
This past weekend consisted mostly of eating and drinking. (Which is a great way to spend a weekend!)
First, on Saturday night we went to a "Local Harvest" dinner, which was put together by a consortium of local restaurants, bars, wineries, farmers and ranchers. Cocktails and appetizers followed by a four course dinner with wine pairings, everything locally grown and made! It was amazing and delicious and I won one of the raffle prizes and went home with a basket of heirloom cherry tomatoes, chile peppers, and lemon cucumbers, plus a small jar of herbed salt. (I ate some of the tomatoes tonight with my dinner, yum yum!)
Then on Sunday, acquaintances of ours who own an apple orchard had their annual cider party. Basically, you show up in the afternoon and help to either 1) pick apples, 2) crush apples in the apple crusher, or 3) put the crushed apples into the cider press and make cider. In return you get as many apples as you care to take home, plus as much cider as you can carry away in your own jugs (including last year's pressing which has been turned into hard cider), and there's a potluck dinner (with cider, both hard and new, to drink).
This year here has been an incredible apple year (actually, all tree fruit) and the trees were overburdened to the point of breaking limbs. We picked huge bins full and you couldn't even tell!
But, we now have nine gallons of cider in the freezer (and two gallons of the hard stuff) and maybe seven pounds of apples in the basement which hopefully will last long enough to make dried apples, chutney, pies, and of course, eat them.
So, that's food and drink. In fic and art news, Remix Revival and Remix Madness are open! I wrote, um, five stories (across both collections) and am pretty pleased with them all.
Meanwhile, someone remixed my ancient (2003!) completely-jossed-by-later-books Snape/Black story Oral Sex (contains no actual sex, title's a joke explained in the story notes) into Head Start (Oral Sex Remix) which is essentially a missing scene between my story and the sequel (which does contain actual sex). I'm retrospectively feeling bad that people might be expecting to remix something, you know, recent and canon compliant! Maybe I shouldn't sign up with HP in the future...or with SGA or dS, where most of my stories are 10+ years old....except there goes most of my eligibility!
