I've posted the fourth part of
Eagle Nine, the science fiction futuristic cyborg AU that I begun in round 3 of the Fanmedia Challenge, to AO3:
4: Village of the Sealies (about 6000 words). The story is rated M and there will be one more chapter for a total length of around 28,000 words.
It has been so good to get back to this. Not that I haven't enjoyed writing my
eagle_rbb story, but it's such a different sort of writing and it fed a different part of my creativity. I really need constraints to write, which is why fanfiction is easier and more fun for me than original fiction (and why I love poetry that rhymes and scans, and word games such as acrostics and lipograms). The constraints of these stories are in different dimensions: for one, I have to conform to history but express myself in characters and plot, while for the other, I have a set plot form and characters but can play with plot details and worldbuilding. In conclusion, yay cyborgs!
