1. Half the posts on my flist can be summarized as, "It's hot as [epithet]! [Number] degrees, OMG I AM MISERABLE!" I feel for you. Really. Meanwhile, I'm wearing sweats and drinking hot tea in my pleasantly-cool house in pleasantly-warm Colorado.
2. I am still strangely entranced by the treadmill dancing.
3. If I were still in HP fandom, I would be all over the Summer of the Squid challenge at omniocular.
4. Of course, if I were still in HP fandom, I would have been at Lumos. Instead I am enjoying reading all the reports. Alas, I have seen no photos as of yet. This must be remedied. Hint. Hint.
5. I've made the beta edits to my midsummer2006 story and now I am all foot-tappy and anxious to post. It's funny how writing for fests is such a tightrope: you don't want to be frantic and up against the deadline with only three paragraphs written, but neither do you want to finish way early and have to sit on your story for a month. Just over a week to go. I can handle that. Yeah.
6. I've given in to my inner creative diva and started writing the ooh shiny cool story idea I mentioned last week. Writing something I am excited about is so much easier than writing something I'm meh about. Look, almost 4000 words already! Except that I needed to stop and do some planning, because OMG this is going to be a long and complex one.
7. Which means that at the moment, Fraser isn't getting laid, Dr. Emmett isn't having drinks with Ray Kowalski, and Rodney McKay isn't falling in love with a hot blonde. Oh, well. ETA: Well, okay, actually, Fraser is getting laid, because I wanted to write porn but it's not going to happen in the shiny cool for at least five more scenes.
8. I read a delightful older due South story last night: O'Leary's Hotel by J. Hardin | Fraser/RayK, G, novelette. After a confrontation with some goons, Fraser is beaten almost to death - and rescued by an odd group of women with unusual powers. It's an interesting mix of Celtic mythology, streetwise Chicago, and the show's canonical magical realism. Great original characters. And, um, I got a little weepy at the end. Thanks to secret_garden for pointing this one out.
9. I am still tweaking things a bit, but I've pretty much settled on a new layout based on Smooth Sailing. Thanks to djinanna for the suggestion.
