I am... wildly underwhelmed by Sims 3. There are so, so many things that are either poorly thought out (households you aren't actively playing can just 'move out of town' and delete themselves from your game?) or flat out buggy (toddlers can't play together? wtf? you can't place new lots? SO DUMB!). The much touted personality matrix is blah. Daredevils can... eat dirt? Um... yay? Why don't they want more extreme careers? Do risky things? Want fast cars and/or motorcycles (which the game doesn't have). Most of the traits are just as... lacking. Also their supposedly great new sim creation part leaves almost everyone looking like a blockhead no matter what you do. You can make sims extremely fat or muscley and the hair and eye colors are fantastically specifically customizable but you can't go extreme in the other direction and body shape is determined ONLY by fat and muscle. There's no variation in body shape. In other words... everyone is pear shaped and you can't independently distribute weight. And sims can ONLY 'woohoo' in bed? LAME! The best upside is that the game is incredibly fluid, which is lovely, but not enough.
In a nutshell my problem with it can be summed up by this: they added new functions without allowing for the user to micromanage their sim's world. Sims has always been about playing God with your barbies families. If you can't do that, what's the point?
I'll keep playing but mostly because I formatted my old comp and don't have Sims 2 or any of my custom content anymore. Here's hoping that patches and custom content help Sims 3 out a bit.
