Summary: In the span of one second, Veronica’s whole world ends.

In the span of one second, Veronica’s whole world ends.
Everything slows down inside that one second; that one second she sees a gun pointed at Wallace’s chest, hears the click of a shot being fired. A part of her dies in that second. She can barely hear anything over her heart hammering in her chest.
But it’s the next second that puts everything back together. There is no bullet. Wallace lays on the ground, untouched, and soon Lucky joins him, dead. Amid the horror, Veronica feels nothing but relief.
She could never survive losing Wallace. She’d barely survived losing Lily.
