Dear Yuletide Writer,
Hello wonderful Yuletide writer! We have a fandom in common. Yay! I love you already and I feel warm and fuzzy inside knowing you're writing a fic for me. I hope you enjoy your Yuletide writing experience and are delighted by happy-plot-bunnies of awesome. I know I'll love whatever you are excited about writing!
Welcome to my fic jounal. Hopefully, you can get a good idea of what I like here. My
tags don't include fandoms; those are in the
master list.
ETA: Sorry about the f'lock. I hope you're as happy with your assignment as I am with mine. ♥
I read: gen, slash, and het about equally; PG-13 to NC-17 most often; G and PG less frequently, but often enough to still be present in my rec'ing practices.
Awesome stuff: baseball references, flawed characters; conflict; themes of faith; character-driven porn, especially exploring power dynamics and/or polyamory; passing the Bechdel allegory; adventure; humor; canon-based AU's. Basically, if it's character-centric, I'm a happy fic reader.
Not my cuppa': Yankees baseball references; incest; non-con, scat; extreme violence (not ‘comic book violence’); mentor/student; character bashing or glossing-over faults; characterization ignored for plot; crack!pairings (i.e. non-canon pairing with no canon subtext); mpreg; non-canon character death; the bondage and sadism/masochism in BDSM; fluffy fluff that is fluffy.
Fandom Specific Notes:
REQUEST: Justice Society of America (Comics)
Characters: Any
Category: Any
Details: Anything would be great! If you want a prompt, it would be awesome if you could write something paralleling the war generation with the present; or something about growing old; or focusing on the younger girls; or maybe a day in the life story about a particular member; or anything JSA and I'll be thrilled. I like to think of the team as one big imperfect, but semi-functional family.
Additonal Details:
Everything I said last year still applies. As far as newer canon goes, I like to pretend 'the split' isn't really a split. I've preferred the plot in All-Stars to Willingham's JSA, but preferred Robinson's crossover to both. I loved most of the last 80 page and Jen Van Meter's co-feature completely delighted me. The current JSA ongoing is happy-making: Jay/Alan and Ted, Oh My!
For more an idea of what I like: I've received great fic in this fandom:
for Yuletide and
for JBBS. My fic in this fandom is
here. I've also recc'ed JSA fic
here,
here,
here, and
here. You can also find an occasional post from me at
jsa_allstars.
REQUEST: Power Girl (Comic)
Characters: Power Girl, Atlee aka Terra
Category: Any
Details: I love these two together! Whether you want to emphasize the femmeslash, the cultural differences, or just the sweet fun of their friendship, I'm all for it.
Additonal Details: I fell in love with these two in the Terra mini-series and Palmiotti/Gray and Conner's Power Girl just cemented it. There is so much that could be done with these characters. Although the source material is fabulous sheer fun and zany adventures, please don't feel constrained by that - you could go for serious if that's what works for you and I'll be all good. For general reference, I associate Karen more with the JSA than the JLI (and I obviously wouldn't mind if her JSA-family showed up as supporting characters.)
REQUEST:Birds of Prey (Comic)
Character: Charlie Gage-Radcliffe
Category: Gen
Details: Oh, I MISS Charlie. Anything focusing on her would be fine. A present day setting would be fine, where she visits the team, or maybe we could see how she's coping in her new foster family, or an AU where she isn't sent away from the team. Or maybe you want to take us back to before she found Babs, or when Helena was looking after her. How would she work with Steph, or Cass? Or future-fic could be cool: Who does she grow up to be? I want to know all you have to say about Charlie.
Additonal Details: I love Charlie's resourcefulness (Just how did she figure out Babs was Batgirl?), her tenacity, her impulsiveness, and her desperation. Her sarcasm covering up her vulnerability. I loved the relationship she was developing with Babs and later with Helena. Really, I just love Charlie.
REQUEST: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Character: Jadzia Dax
Category: Gen
Details: I love Jadzia's scientific skepticism and sense of wonder; her optimism and sense of fun and adventure; her loyalty and honesty. My favorite of her episodes are through season four where we got to know more about her Trillness. I'd love to know more about Jadzia as a Trill, wherever that takes you.
Additonal Details: I'm thrilled DS9 is finally a Yuletide fandom! Yay! I love her friendships and though I don't romantically ship her outside canon, I very much ship her friendships (with Ben, Julian, Quark, Nerys, etc.). I love how she felt the freedom to make her own decisions and how much she cherished her friendships and knew where her boundaries lay. To further explain what I mean by her "Trillness": One of the few things that disappointed me in the series is that when Jadzia got together with Worf, she focused more on Klingon culture than her own. While I can see how that would be interesting for Jadzia, it was not so much for me. After season four episodes focusing on her as a Trill kind of disappeared and I missed it. If you want to explore her family or her life at the academy (or how she brought her own culture into her marriage), or even what Ezri thinks of her memories - anything especially Jadzia would be wonderful.
Fandom References: So, you're stuck and want to write in a fandom where we weren't matched?
If we were matched on a comic,
your local comic shop,
comicunity, or
thelongbox are good places to find the other comics. DS9 is much harder to find, though you can watch "Rejoined" (a great Jadzia episode) on
on YouTube. A helpful reference is
Memory Alpha, the Trek wiki. If we were matched on DS9, the easiest of my requests to read on it's own is probably Power Girl. There are only twelve issues of Jimmy Palmiotti/Justin Gray and Amanda Conner's PG (and by the same folks, six totally optional issues of Terra set just before it).
Last but not at all least, THANK YOU! Season's Greetings to you and blessings to you and yours!
