Today I received a complaint about my story, about how my Dain is OOC to the point of being unrecognizable. I knew that not everyone would like my story, and that eventually I would get a negative review, but keeping the characters in character is a point of pride for me. I feel lost now. Like the entire foundation of my story is built on a lie.

Here is my suggestion (again, for what it is worth). Ask yourself, do you enjoy writing your story? If it brings you happiness, that should be all that matters. I enjoy Erebor Restored very much, and would be very disappointed if you quit on it. But you shouldn't force yourself to finish something you do not like or makes you miserable to complete. Writing should be something that makes YOU happy, and if others enjoy it, that is just a bonus.
My guess is your good reviews come from people that like to read good Fili/Sigrid and Kili/Tauriel. I find these are actually not that easy to come across (especially the Fili/Sigrid). I have read what you have from start to finish probably at least four times, lol. I enjoy your writing that much. There are only a handful of fanfics that I can say that for.
Try not to feel so discouraged :)

That and you're right, there aren't a ton of really well written fics out there to read. That is the main reason why I've been writing to begin with, to be honest. I do love my story and will continue. Right now I'm working on drabbles for the KiFiBaAW tag on Tumblr that starts next week.
Thank you for your support and encouragement. It really does mean a lot to me. I'm off to write more. The next part is one that I've been putting off for a week now. It's action based and I don't really know how to write action. Time to learn, I guess. ^_^
