So I can no longer ruthlessly mock the American political system because... well, it seems to work. I watched the Obama inauguration coverage on Tuesday with a bunch of friends all sitting around the TV eating birthday cake. It was CAKE and OBAMA and what more could you want? I thought his speech was excellent, although there were a few moments that were a little too reminiscent of George Bush... And Cheney in a wheelchair... I know this joke's been made a zillion times since Tuesday but it seems that he would have looked completely at ease stroking a white Persian cat on his lap. And I loved the old civil rights guy doing his little poem ('When black gets asked to come back, when brown is still aroun', when yella is mella, when the red man can get ahead, man, and white will do what's right') and he was so much better than the Yale poetry lady, who really and truly bored me.
(Also, Michelle looked gorgeous - the yellow coat and green gloves were inspired.)
Went to a friend's 17th birthday party on Wednesday night and we all had to dress up really posh and hung around in her spectacular dining room anbd playing swing music really loudly. It was amazing.
And I'm going to another friend's seventeenth tonight. I have to dress as something beginning with 'm' so I'm wearing all black with a white mask and going as THE MOON. I was going to go as Karl Marx and tell people I was going to a Communist Party but I figured that would be too difficult - and I didn't want to have to explain why I was dressed as Santa all night long.
