you know, i don't think i actually want to write a long, in-depth review of "mostly harmless" (which i finally finished after... well, a lot of effort).
i could write a review, but there's really not much point. sort of like there was no point to the book.
suffice to say that while douglas adams' writing style was never a favorite of mine (i don't find him as insanely funny as many people seem to) i was able to appreciate him in a low-key way.
however, after reading "mostly harmless" (with dogged determination, because the last time i made the attempt i had to toss the book away in disgust) i don't know if there's any feeling of goodwill left in me.
"mostly harmless" was one of the most insulting books i have ever wasted my time on, and i honestly don't know why i bothered. it somehow managed to be both less banal than "so long and thanks for all the fish," and yet far more idiotic and, well, insulting to the reader's intelligence. the writing was uninspired, the plot ridiculous, and the characterizations no longer amusing.
ultimately, i think i would have been better served by being subjected to tentacle sex.
