I've never been a big fan of my birthday. I dont have anything against getting older or telling folks my age or anything like that. I'm actually enjoying my 30's quite a lot and relish the wisdom and experiences each new year brings. Its just that traditionally since I was pretty young birthdays were times when I was forgotten, or ill-treated, or have had pretty horrible life altering things happen. Its become a time I dont dread but try not to think about in a "whats going to go wrong" car wreck sort of way.
I am happy to report an uneventful pleasant quiet birthday has passed. I spent yesterday morning sleeping in (after working a 13 hour day previously), having hubby make me breakfast, followed by quiet opening of presents/cards with him and the kids, got a few unexpected well wishes in email from friends I dont talk to enough, a blessedly rare quiet day at work, which I left early, took the kids to parents night out, got to-go food from Maggiano's and curled up with a movie and the hubby in bed. And the most important of birthday traditions to me was upheld, I had good cake (in bed although that parts optional). That's about ideal a day as I get.
Gabby has some weird thoughts about birthdays and I'm not quite sure where she's getting them from as I just avoid the subject mostly... Hers is next week and she's quite adamant and sure that she doesnt want to turn 4 because its awful and she keeps begging to stay 3 :)
Maybe we're all a bit weird about birthdays round these parts...
