Want to know how fucking stupid some of the people who call the answering service are?
I just had a call from a woman who reported she was smelling gas in her apartment and that the odor was extremely strong. The woman also said she was feeling rather dizzy. I told her I'd call the maintenance man to report it, but told her she should probably call the fire department as well, since I didn't know how long it would take maintenance to answer the page or how long it would take him to respond to the call once he got the message (some of the maintenance men don't live on the property or even live out of town). I also told her she should vacate the apartment and wait till someone had checked it out.
She asked if I could have the maintenance man call her and give her a second opinion as to whether she ought to call the fire department or not.
Um.
HELLO?
A gas leak is a MAJOR safety hazard. You could fucking DIE from inhaling the fumes. Your apartment could fucking EXPLODE.
And you want a second opinion? When you're already feeling dizzy?
I've said it before and I'll say it again...slowly this time, so that people like that caller can understand it. Say it with me now:
