My wish list for the Philippines

Dec 13, 2008 03:04

This season is about giving, the celebration of the coming of Jesus Christ. Firstly, I wish for the country, and everyone for that matter, to feel this glorious season. That they do feel true joy and find love in their families and friends. Secondly, I wish for those families of 8-10 who live on 30 pesos a day, to not have food only for Noche Buena but also for every night of their lives. I wish for such families to be helped by social enterprises and to not be treated simply as charity cases.

I wish people would finally really give love on Christmas day (yes, like the song). It seems a little cheesy, but this is really what we need right now. Every single one of us needs to feel the love that churches and even Hallmark cards are talking about during this season. We need to show others that it is possible to feel such love. A simple smile would brighten up one’s day; really talking to a person and listening will boost somebody’s notion of themselves. And I wish that people will stop being indifferent and make a decision in their lives and realize what they should be living for.

There are a lot of things to wish about for this country. I wish that poverty would end. I wish that the percentage of malnutrition would go down (which is by the way 2% lower than the percentage in Africa). I wish for government officials to really help and stop lounging around their mansions abroad that could have been a million’s dinner for a month or more.

Also, I wish for people to know God. See God. Love God.

It is through this that maybe the urge for change will kick and scream at the doors of our hearts, and make Christmas not just another day but make every day feel like Christmas.

There are a lot of problems. But ultimately, I wish for people like me to stop wishing and start doing something.
