Amazing what a little sunshine can do. Today was glorious, not too hot, not humid, sunny, beautiful. I got to spend an hour at a soccer game watching my kid play, talking to my ex-husband's ex-girlfriend .... very pleasantly, I might add. Its amazing how things turn out sometimes. So no cobwebs there. And the kid kicked the only goal for his team! Bonus! Final score: 1-1.
And today the DNC's Rules & Bylaws Committee met, and we got to see HRC's last ditch efforts to convince people that her voters were the only ones that mattered, that votes should count despite the fact she was the only one on the ballot, and everyone understood that they wouldn't count at the time ... they were symbolic only, until she needed them. If I were a Michigan or Florida voter, I'd have been deeply insulted that I was told the election wouldn't matter, and then hey presto suddenly it counts -- after the fact. Sunshine was not pretty to the Clinton arguments. One hopes that the faces in the Clinton campaign turn as red as my lovely-un-sunscreened arms ... they should be embarrassed by the incredibly brazenly stupid arguments they're putting up. As if it comes out of their mouths and all reason and intelligence is supposed to leave the listener behind. The Rules Committee came to a compromise, as near as I can tell outside the Rules -- but whatever they say the Rules are that's what the Rules are. Its a Party, not a government ... and its a process. So I hope we can continue to move forward, and move toward the date when the primary is finally over. And I'm looking forward to voting for a candidate in the General Election who does not talk to voters as if they're totally stupid.
The sunshine itself is just energizing. Hard not to feel good about life when the weather is perfect. In Chicago, its too rarely perfect -- we have challenging weather here, the kind that puts hair on your chest (not that i want hair on my chest, mind you), that calls for fortitude and endurance. Once in a while, the weather is perfect and we are all so grateful for it. We flock outside, our baseball teams win or not and it doesn't really matter, there are more ice cream vendors pushing carts than you can imagine, and you can feel the joy of life swelling around you. Its warm tonight: one of my favorite things is to sit on my front porch and hang out in the evening -- so I'm off there once the kid is in bed.
In other news, I got my haircut today, and I can't decide whether its a good cut or too short. Its hard to be a girl sometimes.
