I think this Peter David character punched it up a bit. He may also have written that Transformers novel you liked. He writes a lot of them, based on movies.

Listen, kid, between you and me -- if motherhood means you can't enjoy watching a couple robots wail on each other, you may not be offering your daughter a full range of life experience.
