TM 227: Recommend a book

May 02, 2008 00:09

Current Topic: A friend asks you to recommend a book: which book would you choose and why?

If a friend asked me to recommend a book, I would recommend,"Tony Stark: the Story of My Life" by Tony Stark (with Peter Allen David). I assume that if somebody asked me to recommend a book, it was because they cared about what I thought. Or else they were kissing my ass. If they were kissing my ass, this is the best answer I could possibly give (soon to be followed by a "Why didn't I think of that, Director Stark, Sir?')

And if that wasn't the case, and they really wanted to know what I thought, they could find more about that from reading the story of my life. From my bucolic youth on Long Island, to my spectacularly successful academic career at MIT, to my rise to fame in the corporate boardroom. Accident in the jungle desert, resourceful means of escape (and people said those hours of building Battlebots with scrap metal at the robotics lab wouldn't pay off). Solo career, identity issues, Avengers, drunk, rich, drunker, poor, sober, rich again. Avengers, Secretary of Defense, more Avengers, Civil War, SHIELD. All that stuff you already know, but in more compelling prose.

Or, you could just see the movie.
