"Nenn's Glück! Herz! Liebe! Gott!"

Two days ago my mother and I visited my cousin, his wife and their three little children. The youngest is just a baby, the eldest will be turning five soon, and his sister is two and kept repeating keywords of our conversation, in such a cute way. And they were so well-behaved, too! I really enjoyed my stay there and while my mother was talking to her nephew, I listened to the boy's stories. He told me about the trip they had made into the nearby mountains and all the animals he'd seen there:
He: I even saw an owl!
His sister: ouuuul!
Me: Wow, you've seen quite a lot of animals...
He: And some other time we went to a river and I saw a fish THIS BIG!
His sister: Saw fffish! Dis big!!! *loses interest and walks away*
Me: Really?
He: Yes! And also, I saw a whale there!
Me: Rrrrright... You saw a whale in the river? Now you are kidding, young boy...
He: ... I saw a whale...
Me: But don't whales live in the ocean?
He: ... I've also seen the devil!
Me: The devil doesn't exist...
He: In our fairy tale book, on a picture!
Me: *laughing* I see; yes, the devil only exists in stories...
He: ...but my father says the devil is also real!
Me: O______o

I was so shocked. I had no idea how to reply to that. Christian fundamentalists. In my family. ... O tempora, o mores...
