Avoiding the nightmares and enjoying building worlds

Jan 14, 2012 22:27

Had an insight/idea this morning that so excited me (it solved a huge riddle in my twelve-planet universe, consolidated a trait across several worlds and allowed for it to develop differently AND IT'S COOL) that I wrote three snippets of short story/book in an hour, making us late to leave. But I'm glad I did it because now I'm tired and not feeling the idea-love, though I'm still excited a bit.

World-building by catapult (fling ideas at a planet's population and see which ones stick) is fun.

And yesterday I read an interview with Elizabeth Bear which was a lot of fun (and I'm sure I got the link from one of you all, so you've probably read it too). But it made me realize I haven't read any Shadow Unit for some time -- like two years -- and I need to stop remembering that around 10 p.m., because I refuse to read it that late. My nightmares, let me show you them. No. Wait. Let me NOT. Actually, let me not have them in the first place kthxbye.

Yeah. But I LIKE Shadow Unit, so I need to remember to read it early in the day, when the day can wear it off before the dreaming.

And that's as profound as it gets around here on a Saturday night.
