he arrives to beeping monitors and humming machines, a beautiful symphony of noise proving to him that she exists in there somewhere.
she's small and fragile and there's too much white framing her body. he presses his thumb against her wrist, feeling the faint thump thump thump, but he can sense her fading away from him, hovering dangerously close to the edge. he wraps a hand around her fingers and blinks back tears.
fight this, he commands. the world shouldn't exist without you.
he holds his breathe. she's silent.
he leans over, places a kiss against her cheek, and waits.
