Babies

Here's the newest addition to the family:

She was born on Friday, my mom's birthday. She's a quarter horse/Tennessee walker mix, brown and white paint with a black mane and tail, four white socks and a white star. She has a white mark across her saddle that looks kind of like a swordfish. She's Alice's and, let me tell you, Alice is all hers.

My mom had a paint horse when she was a teenager, a mustang mare bought on the Comanche reservation. Her name was Lady Comanche, so it seemed right to name the new little paint after her. We decided to give her a Florida name  and call her Lady Calusa (Lucy for short).

Her mama, Gloria hasn't been on the farm for long, and she's very watchful and wary. Having the baby is actually making her a bit friendlier than she has been in the past, but she's definitely still a skeptic when it comes to people, even quiet people with outstretched carrots.

And here's one for good measure where you can kind of see the other babies, Rex and Baxter by Alice's feet. Gloria did not like excited little dogs around her baby, but she tolerated Alice really well.
