Gertrude is ailing...

Her AC port (where you plug in the power adapter) is broken. The good news is that there isn't anything else wrong with her - so all of my stuff is saved and the battery still works fine. The bad news is that there is that I have to run my computer completely off battery power, and my normal way of charging my battery is gone. Thank God, Catherine has the exact same computer that I do, and she is letting me put my battery into her computer to charge it, so I can still use Gertrude somewhat. Also, I've put my name on a waiting list for one of the 24 hour loaner laptops at the library and I should get one tomorrow.

Even so, I have to conserve my battery power, so I'm not going to spend it doing anything on my computer but writing papers and checking my email. So...unless I'm in the computer lab, I won't be checking facebook, on aim, or on the bbs. I believe the bbs is down anyway (Drat), but I'm going to try to get in touch with Emily or Catherine to let them know my predicament. If any of you see them online though, would you let them know for me? :)

I'm not sure what I'm going to do in the long run. Right now, I just need to get through the next two weeks, which I think I can do with Catherine's help. I might have to buy a new computer, becuase the ac port is welded to the harddrive (a fact I learned yesterday) and my warranty ran out last month, so replacing the motherboard isn't cost effective - it would cost about $50 less than my buing a new laptop. I did call up a computer place my dad reccomended, and they said they would look at it for me for $35 (Dell was going to charge me $200, just to look at it). They said it was possible that it was a loose connection or something they could sodder back together. That would be awesome, and I hope its the case, but if not, I'm going to be considerably poorer. Drat.

Oh well - it could be worse. I could have lost all my work.
