Jane Austen Made Me Do It: Original Stories Inspired by Literature's Most Astute Observer of the Human Heart
by Laurel Ann Nattress
Short Story
Rating - A

A collection of short stories, all having to do with Jane Austen, whether it be her characters, her influence, or the romance.
I happened upon this book by accident! I was looking around for Jane Austen stuff and saw this and bought it! It's a collection of short stories, most are of modern people who have intense love for Jane Austen and have something Austen-ish happen to them in their lives.
I very much enjoyed it! As a Jane Austen addict, it's nice to see that there are more out there :P I recommend it for anyone who loves Jane Austen, and has read all of her books, since they talk about all of them in detail.

The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane
by Kathrine Howe
Thriller/Mystery
Rating - A

Harvard doctoral canidite Connie Goodwin, who was trying to take the summer to write her dissertation, is tasked by her mother to clean her grandmother's old, abandoned house in Salem so it can be sold. She doesn't want to do it initially, but feel drawn to the old house and Salem in general, the witch trials being a focus of her study.
While looking through the library, she comes across as old Bible with a key and a name "Deliverance Dane". This starts a while summer of mystery and enlightenment as she tries to figure out Deliverance Dane's secret.

This book literally found me, lol. I found it on the floor of the public library last year, took it home and read a bit of it before having to return it. I put it on my list of To Read, and I just kept seeing it everywhere! I finally took it as a hint and picked it up again!
This was a great read, it jumps back and forth between 1692 and 1991, and kinda helps to pick up on the mystery that Connie is trying to solve. It is a great Colonial American/Salem witch trials thriller. The funniest thing though, Connie's mom, is very much like Bella's mom from Twilight! LOL I wouldn't be surprised to find out they were sisters.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone who like mysteries!
