I want to talk to Dave about net neutrality and other internet related laws. I don't think I have enough "white hat" friends to get much of an "other side of the fence" type view, but I have plent of "black hat" friends I can rant with about how completely devoid of knowledge of all things technical our Senators are.

Anyway. Network printer at the Garden City Retail office wasn't working. It's apparently been down since Thursday and Justin and I never got a trouble ticket about it. The NIC was replaced Thursday and they've been down since then. I have no idea why the NIC was replaced or what's been going on over there, but we really should have been informed sooner and the person who replaced the NIC should have made sure it worked before he left.

Walking into the office Justin says, "I'm hoping the guy that installed the NIC just forgot to configure it and it just needs an IP address and all that. You know it's never that easy, though."

We get to the printer and everything is set correctly and I'm thinking, "Damn, it's going to be some weird/obscure prob- Hey! The network cable's unplugged!"

*Plug*
*Printing*

Justin: You've gotta be freaking kidding me.
Me: bololoroflololbololmao
Regan (cool girl that works there): If I ever see the guy that was here before to work on that thing I'm gonna strangle him with that freakin' cable!

Wow. Just wow.

Note: I do not expect any user to notice that the network cable is unplugged because it's not in a particularly visible place; I happen to have pretty sharp eyes and a good sense of my surroundings and stand in awkward places in rooms so I just happened to see it. The guy who replaced the NIC, however, should have known to plug the damn cable back in after he did so.

yro, rant, work, computers
