First, a picture of the finished pair of Sockapal-2-za socks.
Sockpal-2-za socks. Yarn is Opal handpainted sock yarn.
I decided not to work on the vest at the knitting group yesterday, even though the needles arrived. It's such a pain to deal with all of those color changes. I prefer to spit splice in the privacy of my own home. Instead, I cast on for the Broadripple socks, with my Lorna's Laces sock yarn. The colorway is Iris Garden.
I'm not sure how the pooling/striping is going to come out. It could be nice, or it could be overwhelming. At this point, I don't care. I just want to see what happens. Even though I'm a big fan of purple, I've never been huge on pink. Knitting two pairs of pink socks in a row feels a bit weird. But if you looked at both pictures, you probably noticed that the colorways are really different. The LL is a bit more subdued than the Opal, and it doesn't have the green in it.
As with the GWTF socks I just finished, I'm not crazy about the cuff right now. But I think, as with the GWTFs, it's a case of it being something that's not great alone or up close, but which will work very well with the sock as a whole when it's done. The pattern is super easy, and I had it memorized by the end of the first round. (The cuff pattern is the same as the rest of the pattern, except that you purl across every other row instead of knitting, as in the rest of the leg. Thus, garter instead of stockinette.)
I did work a bit on the vest before going to the knitting group yesterday. I mostly wanted to get it off the old needles and onto the new, so I did a round or two to get it all knitted onto and settled on the new ones. They feel a bit weird, but I think they'll be fine, when I get used to them. I think they're enamel covered metal, but I'm not sure. I've never knit with them before, and the biggest adjustment, truthfully, is the weird sound they make when they rub together. I'm not sure if I like it. But if that's the worst that happens, I'll be happy.
ETA: I thought I should mention a discovery, and take back part of something I said a few weeks ago. Someone in
knitting just pointed out that
Sarnac, from the new Knitty, has a zipper in the front neck opening. She hadn't realized it, and neither had I. That explains the opening, and I think the sweater is pretty cool, now. I'm not hot about how it looks completely unzipped, but I bet it looks a lot nicer zipped up a little bit, or all the way. So there is a sweater pattern in this issue of Knitty that I think is pretty nice. Makes sense, too, as I'm usually a fan of Rebecca's designs.
